Gardens by Oz, or “Gardens” for short, was founded in 1979 with a clear vision: to create beautiful landscapes that blend thoughtful design, deep plant knowledge, community connection, and a passion for natural artistry.

We work year-round — not seasonally — which means the knowledge we build on your property compounds with every visit.
Five members of our team hold Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional (CBLP) certifications, a credential covering sustainable design, plant health, and stormwater management specific to this region. We're members of the Virginia Nursery & Landscape Association, and we invest continuously in the training and professional development that keeps our staff at the top of their craft.
We've been working in Norfolk's soil since 1979. That history isn't just a number — it's an intimate familiarity with the plants, drainage patterns, and microclimates of the Tidewater region. We're fluent across the full range of landscape approaches: native plantings, conservation-focused design, and stormwater management practices alongside traditional installations, non-native selections, and more formal garden styles. We don't advocate for one philosophy over another. We advise based on your property, your goals, and what will genuinely hold up over time.
